Visualization and Virtual Environments Community Club (VVECC)

Computer Games and Interactive Entertainment
25 October 2000
held at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory

Chair: Dr Steve Maddock, University of Sheffield

A full day VVECC seminar presenting the state of the art in Computer Graphics and Interactive Entertainment.

about the day / speakers' materials

Computer-based games and entertainment not only provide enjoyment and stimulation (not to mention frustration too), but influence the use and growth of other computer-based applications. For many, interactive entertainment is their first acquaintance with computers and thus can influence their subsequent expectations, games technology can enhance education through a seductive 'learning-by-doing' approach, and the demands of interactive entertainment can drive technology developments which subsequently become available for other uses.

The speakers are from leading games companies and from academia and will provide an expert view of where the market is and where it's going, and how higher education institutes are collaborating with games companies.
